(Proposal ID) S14B-013 (PI) Tadaki Kenichi (Proposal Title) Extended MAHALO survey of star forming galaxies at z>2 in CANDELS fields (Abstract) Our "Mahalo-Subaru" project has been successfully mapping out star formation and AGN activities traced by H$\alpha$ emitters (HAEs) at 1.52, and ~100 HAEs in SXDF at z>2 of which bright emitters (which we can study further in detail) are limited to ~70 (only 15 of which are available with AO). We now propose to increase the sample of field, bright HAEs to ~500 (>100 with AO) over the three CANDELS fields with four narrow-band filters on MOIRCS. This "extended Mahalo-Subaru survey" will provide us with a truly statistical, and relatively unbiased sample of bright star forming galaxies at their peak epoch of formation, with the HST images fully and publicly available. We can obtain accurate cosmic SFR densities and SFR-stellar mass relations, and the HST data will resolve their internal structures (profiles, clumps). Moreover, a large coordinated AO-assisted Halpha imaging survey with IRCS is planned by us with its identical narrow-band filter-set to resolve star formation activities within galaxies. This sample will thus eventually identify and classify the internal physical processes in action in galaxy formation.
